February news update

  1. Our U14s have started back training as they will be one of the first underage teams in action in 2020. Numbers are good and despite the tough weather these lads are determined and they are being driven hard by their management team of Sean Lynch and Cathal Walsh.
  2. Our U21s continue their training for the 1st round of championship where they have been drawn against Tulla, fixture likely to be St. patrick’s day. Tommy Liddy’s troops have put in a big effort this year and the early sessions on the running track at O’ Garney Park should stand to them.
  3. The Arena development is progressing very well, currently the block work is being completed and the cladding contractors are on site starting the fit out of the exterior cladding which will give the building a very finished look. However there is still a lot to do inside the building with the Astro turf, lighting, doors and finishing works still to be done. Despite the work remaining and the cost, the club are still confident of a Winter 2020 opening.
  4. Bingo continues on a Monday night in the GAA hall. This is a wonderful night out to meet people for the people in our community, and also be in with a chance to win several cash prizes! Why not make your way up of a Monday evening and try it out!
  5. The ‘Togging Out Group’ continue to train on Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm and Saturday morning at 8am. Brian O’ Neill has been ably running these sessions and they are enjoyable and tough at the same time, if that’s possible! New members are always welcome and the group have been known to organise the odd night out also!
  6. The minor club top table has undertaken a change of leadership. After many years of great service, chairman Mike O’ Halloran has stood down. Mike was a dedicated chairman as well as coach in the club and his efforts and inputs have no doubt ensured that the club has remained as one of the premier clubs not just in Clare  but in the country. Mike was ably assisted by outgoing treasurer Kieran Keating again who has given a long number of years service ensuring the funds were always kept in check and assisting throughout the club wherever he could, be it with the club calendar or with grants. Kieran is also a Munster club delegate. Finally Edel Rafferty, as Secretary ably ensured that the ship ran smoothly on the admin side.
  7. The incoming chairman is another Cappa man, Eoin Gavin. Eoin has brought with him to the top table John Reddin as treasurer and Gwen Leyden as secretary. We wish them the best in the years to come.
  8. Mikey Corbett has been ratified as Junior B manager for the coming year, and he is currently organising his schedule and team for the year ahead.
  9. Plans underway for participating in Paddys Day parade .. Prizes from ClubShop for best dressed Bridge Hurler’s.
  10. 2 Senior medal winners Tadhg Keogh and Kevin Lynch have joined the U12 management team led by Adrian Chaplin.
  11. U10 Coach Martin Conlon has joined Senior management team.
  12. Clare Seniors going well ... Paidi, Seadna, Cathal and Shane are hurling well and fresh looking following long campaign last year
  13. Timmy Crowe has joined the management setup with Davy Fitzgerald at Wexford.
  14. Terence Chaplin is a selector with the Clare minors for 2020.
  15. There is a large contingent of ‘Bridge players currently training with development squads and the Clare minors, and we wish them the best for the rest of the year
  16. Brian Culbert continues his coaching role with Kerry for 2020 and they have 3 wins on the trot so far.
  17. Tommy Liddy returns as coach to the Banner Junior B team.
  18. Ruari Walsh is continues his role with the UL freshers.
  19. The club successfully hosted a coaching session in January given by Clare Games Development coach Michael Duffy. It was good to see the clubs coaches coming together for some winter tuition before the teams get underway for the year.
