All Ireland success for Handballer Cian Fawl

Cian Fawl, a member of the U14 hurling panel excelled in a different GAA sport last weekend in Wexford. Cian is a member of the U12/13 Clare handball team which reached the All Ireland Final last Sunday.

Cian tasted Munster success back in February in Broadford, Co. Limerick when the Clare team beat Tipperary in the quarter final and Limerick in the semi final to book their place in the Munster Final. The Munster Final was held in Liscarroll, Co. Cork, also in February and Cork were defeated on this occasion on a scoreline of 84 to 35.

The All Ireland Finals were held in St. Josephs Handball Club in Wexford last weekend. In the semi final Clare defeated the Connaught champions Galway on a scoreline of 78 to 38 to set up an All Ireland Final meeting with Kilkenny. Kilkenny, a hotbed for handball proved to be too strong however for the Banner men and Cian who suffered an injury during the match competed right till the end. All Ireland silver medals are not easy to come by and young Cian Fawl can be proud of his achievement and can probably thank the sporting genes from the Murray family in Sixmilebridge and the Fawl family in Newmarket.

Cians playing partner on the court was Seanie Doyle (Tuamgraney). The full team was Cian Fawl (Newmarket club), Sean Coughlan (Clooney), Jimmy O'Gorman (Tulla), Adam Hogan (Feakle), Aaron Hayes (Clarecastle), Sean Whitecombe (Tulla), Cormac Murphy (Kilkishen).
