Junior Cs narrowly lose league opener

Smb 2-09

Clonbony 3-09

Sixmilebeidge played West Clare outfit Clonbony on Sunday evening at Lahinch in Rd. 1 of the Junior C league. Weather conditions were ideal being dry and sunny.

Manager Jude Kearney, ably assisted by Tom Keogh and Gerry Liddane organised the team on the day. There were a number of panellists absent on the day but never the less the team produced a spirited performance especially in the second half. The team was captained by long time club goals custodian Colm Noonan.

Ennistymon man Pj Barry helped Clonbony to get organised. They played well scoring 3 goals through the match coming from their full forward line and one from out the field.

Sixmilebridge had good performances from John Paul Griffin who made his competitive return to the club after playing abroad and at other clubs over the last few years. Mark Mcinerney, Jim Spaight did well at the back and Martin Conlon and Ed Skehan got through a lot of work in the midfield area. Up front Caimin Barrett scored a cracking goal to the top corner and James O' Neill and Ryan McCarthy tried hard all day.

Overall it was a good performance from the 'Bridge who managed 2-07 in the second half against only 0-01 in the first half. So a more decisive start the next day might bring the points Garney side.
