At a well attended meeting on last Friday night in the Shannon Shamrock Hotel Sixmilebridge GAA Club successfully unveiled their blueprint for development. There was visible enthusiasm and genuine appreciation of the plans revealed in a power point display which was co-ordinated by Vincent Delaney.

Commencing this July it is hoped to drain and resurface O’Garney Park making it usable all year round.Next year work will be concentrated on the Cappa Lodge field which was duly purchased from the Clare Co.Co some weeks ago.The development of this property, will involve the construction of dressing rooms, floodlights, upgrading of the field and the erection of a boundry wall.Following its completion the enhancement of O’Garney Park will begin, involving terraced banks for match viewing,an extention to the Tommy Morey stand tripling its current capacity and the erection of an indoor all-weather hurling facility with a synthetic playing surface.

However the most ambitious facet of this development concerns a gymnasium which will be located overhead the current hall after the successful elevation of the roof.By utilising and maximising the vast environs of O’Garney Park there is scope for additional facitilies, notably an astro turf outdoor pitch and a full size indoor handball alley.

These projections may seem ambitious, however they will undoubtedly usher the Sixmilebridge GAA Club into the next centuary,a point proffered by presenter Syl O’Connor. The message is clear,-the request simple,-financial support essential. As guest speaker County Board Chairman Michael McDonagh outlined this venture will only succeed with community support and goodwill. For those who were unable to attend on Friday night your chance will come.An opportunity will arrive at your doorstep when visited by players and club officials alike. This is not merely a hurling club project, this is a community development which will provide a platform and guide for future generations.Do not stand on the ‘sidelines’ play a part and mark the future.

Chairman of the development committee Paddy Meehan would like to extend a warm word of thanks and appreciation to all those who made the launch such a success.Tar linn ar an mbothar forbairt!
