Sixmilebridge Gardai are investigating a number of robberies that occurred in the parish in the past week.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the interior of the recently refurbished St. Finnachta’s Parish Church was damaged. apparently, the front door was forced in, the sacristy ransacked in their efforts to locate the key of the safe while about €150 was taken from an adoration shrine.
The same night the Wine and Dine premises in Main Street were broken into but nothing taken. The thieves removed the protective grille to gain entry.
Also last week several houses in Deerpark and Ardkyle were broken into and the thieves were very specific in what they stole, jewellery.
“We believe the thieves are not from the locality as similar breakins occurred in the Tulla and Kilkishen areas,” Sergeant Con Ryan outlined. “The thieves specifically went for jewellery and all the houses were unoccupied at the time.
“We would appeal to people to keep and eye out for one another, anyone who may have noticed anything suspiciously, saw people being dropped off or collected to contact Sixmilebridge Garda Station on 061-369133.”
