Clare secured their first Munster Senior Camogie Championship title since 1946 on Saturday last in the Ragg when they claimed at 9points to 7 victory over National Division 1 league champions Cork. In a hard fought battle, played in wet miserable conditions, Clare were the hungrier side and won the crucial battles all over the field to lift the title, much to the delight of the travelling supporters.
In wet miserable conditions, Cork had the opening score and both sides traded points for the opening 20 minutes, Naomi Carroll with 2 points and Claire McMahon (Kilmaley) with a free, before  McMahon put Clare in front in the 23rd minute with a point from play, a lead which Clare did not relinquish, & then lead 0-4 to 0-3 at the break.
Corks Gemma O'Connor levelled matters at the restart before McMahon & Susan Fahy (Ogonelloe) both pointed for the Banner. O'Connor & Katriona Mackey both converted frees to see the teams draw level for the 4th time by the 38th minute.
Deirdre Murphy  (Clooney/Quin) put daylight between the sides with a free in the 52nd minute and 2 minutes later she once again split the posts. Carolyn Motherway pulled 1 back for Cork but Murphy  pointed from a free for the final score of the game in the 62nd minute.
Joint Clare Captains Fiona Lafferty  (Kilnamona) & Susan Vaughan (Ogonelloe) accepted the Cup from Munster Vice Chairman James Moynihan, while Sixmilebridge's Naomi Carroll also picked up the trophy for player of the game.
One can only hope that this breakthrough to senior level will result in many more historic victories for this Clare side.
Well done to the bridge contingent, namely corner forward Naomi Carroll who won player of the match, corner back Maire McGrath, wing back Chloe Morey, Sinead Touhy and Katie Connor. The team is trained by dedicated clubman, Flan McInerney.

Clare's next fixture is against Cork again on Saturday June 23rd, at a home venue in the opening round of the All-Ireland Senior Championship.
