Kilmaley end Bridge Junior A's hopes of Semi Final Place
Saturday 9th June 2012 Venue: Kilmalely
Kilmalely 3-09 Sixmilebridge 0-11 The ‘Bridge Junior A team travelled to Kilmaley today for their final game of the league. Until today, they had won 4 from 6 with one draw. A win would have secured their place in the league semi finals. Unfortunately it was not to be as a spirited Kilmaley performance ensured that they took their place in the Semi Finals.
Kilmaley started with intent with 3 unanswered points and 4 wides before the Bridge registered their first score from a Michael O' Halloran free. 2 further points from play were added by Michael O’ Halloran, and single points from Paul Corbett and Darragh O’ Connor. But Kilmalely added 3 further points and struck for a goal just before half time which was a major blow to the Bridges hopes as they had been on top for that period. The half time score was 1-06 to 0-05 in favour of Kilmaley.
The Bridge started the 2nd half well and with 4 points from Michael O’ Halloran and a Jayme Keogh point brought the sides level with Kilmaley at 1-07 to the Bridges 0-10. Unfortunately Kilmalely struck for goal again at a crucial time when the Bridge were on top. Jayme Keogh pulled a point back but this was to be the Bridges last point and Kilmalely finished with 2 more points and a goal to kill off the game. The final score was 3-09 to 0-11.
The Bridge full back line played well on the day while under sustained pressure from Kilmaley. Good performances were seen from Darragh McNamara, Keith Walker and Eanna Burns. Daniel Collins showed great heart and never gave up and Evan Mcinerney played well at Centreback for the first time. Michael O’ Halloran played best in the forwards.
All in all the Bridge played well in the league campaign and only narrowly missed out on the semi final spot. A loss to Tubber earlier on in the campaign and a draw with St. Josephs were the only lost points. The tough game will hopefully stand the team well and hopefully they can learn and build from it as they enter the Junior A championship in July.
