Community Games Round Up
Sunday, 17th August 2008
Submitted by Administrator

This weekend, the second weekend of Community Games National Finals 2008 takes place in Mosney, County Meath, and Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry will be well-represented. The Under 16 Variety and Volleyball teams who won their Munster finals last month will be joined by gymnast Rachael O'Halloran.

This is the 28th time that Dolores O'Loughlin will bring a Variety team to Mosney, a remarkable record by any standards. This year, her team is made up of hopefuls Aideen Fleming, Aine Hassett, Aisling McHugh, Aoife Carey, Barry Corbett, Brian Carey, David Finnegan, Gerard O'Dea, Katie Liddy, Kelly Finegan, Maryanne Scanlan, Nicole Kelly, Rachel Scanlan and Roisin Halliday.

Meanwhile, a newcomer to managing at Mosney is Padraig Fitzpatrick, who brings the Under-16 Volleyball side of Eamonn O'Donoghue, Sean Lynch, Noel Purcell, Ian O'Sullivan, Andrew Hogan, Alan Mulready, Daragh Fitzgerald, and Seadna Morey, chasing the National title Padriag to win as a player hinself, just three years ago. Joining Paidi on the bench will be team-mates from 2005 Barry Deasy and Sam O'Sullivan.

The area is also well-represented in the Youth organisation, with local youngsters returning to Mosney to work with the team who helps to keep the 2,000 participants entertained when they are not competing, and still others working as volunteers in other areas.

Everybody is hoping for a dry weekend, but looking forward to fun whatever happens. Best of luck to all involved.

On a side note, the Kilmurry Harvest Festival last night hosted the Variety show and three Culture Corner presentations from the area, as well as local dancers and the Spancil Hill Drama Group, whose headline act was their hilarious farce "Between the Drops". Well done to all on a great evening's entertainment.
