On the 21st September last the Sixmilebridge Toggin out Group participated for the first time at the GAA Dads & Lads National Blitz for over 35’s in the fantastic surroundings of the GAA National Games Development Centre in Abbottstown.
The centre includes a total of five floodlit pitches, a 3G playing surface, a hurling wall and a pavilion which has 10 dressing rooms, a gymnasium, physio and meeting rooms and dining facilities, plenty of tea & coffee was available on arrival.
Teams from all over the country participated in the “minimal contact” self ref’d games, Sixmilebridge & Clare was well represented by the dozen brave souls who put body & mind on the line, coming away undefeated from matches against St James Gaels, Dublin, St. Pats, Antrim, Naomh Olafs, Dublin & Castlecomer, Kilkenny.
Sports file were on hand to document the day, since then one of our more photogenic members have gone on to become a brand ambassador for his near neighbours Torpey hurleys.
The Toggin out group continue to meet every Tuesday & Thursday @8pm behind the stand in the main field, males & females of all fitness levels are welcome to join for some basic circuit training, a little jogging or walking and lots of chat. Those who are a little more adventurous and want to relieve their youth can join on a Saturday morning from 7:45am for hurling in the comfy environs of the Arena.
