Our U12 hurling panel travelled to Ballyragget in County Kilkenny for the Phelan Stone tournament and for what proved to be an excellent day of hurling at one of the most competitive underage tournaments in the country. A total of 17 players made the trip, and each one contributed immensely to a memorable day of sport, teamwork, and determination.

The team faced five very competitive matches throughout the day, meeting sides from across Ireland. Every game was a test of skill, resilience, and teamwork, and the players rose to each challenge superbly.

We started strong with a solid win against local side St. Lachtain’s, laying down a marker early in the tournament. This opening victory gave the lads a big confidence boost and set the tone for the day ahead.

As the group stages progressed, the games got tougher, but our lads showed great heart, work rate, and discipline to come out on top in each fixture. There was no shortage of hooking, blocking, and sharp shooting, and it was a pleasure to watch the players supporting each other, both on and off the pitch.

Having progressed to the final, the team faced a familiar foe – St. Lachtain’s – who had fought their way back through the other side of the draw after their earlier defeat. The final was a thrilling contest, full of intensity and high-quality hurling from both sides. It was a credit to both teams.

Our boys, however, saved their best for last. They showed great composure under pressure, excellent decision-making, and some brilliant scores to seal the win and lift the trophy. It was a fitting end to a day where every player gave their all.Well done to all our boys and a mention to Aaron Fitzpatrick who received a trophy as player of the tournament! Also, a special mention to Ewan Morey who captained to team on the day.

A special word of thanks to the hosts in Ballyragget for their hospitality and to all the parents and supporters who made the journey and encouraged the team throughout the day.

Well done to all 17 players – you represented your club with pride and proved that teamwork, hard work, and a love for the game can bring great rewards.
