Sixmilebridge 2-21
Wolfe Tones 4-12
Venue - Wolfe Tones
Referee - Niall Donovan
The Junior Cs played under lights on Friday night last in Shannon in a final round group championship match that had a lot at stake for both teams. Wolfe Tones were playing for a semi finals.spot of they won and the Bridge for a quarter final spot if they won.
An exciting match, the Tones literally set the tone from the throw in with a high intensity game. They had a number of pacy players and it took a little while for the Bridge to settle and get into the game. The Tones got an early goal thorough their corner forward and the opening score for the Bridge came from Podge Flannery with a point. Ben O'Connell on frees was very accurate on the day and finished the half with 5 frees and 2 from play. Jack Phelan, Danny Scullion, Brian Culbert and Stiofan Fitzpatrick also contributed points from play. Wolfe Tones added 2 more goals to their tally from their full forward which saw the Bridge go in at half time trailing by 2 points 3-5 to 0-12.
The second half saw the Bridge hit back with a couple of goals from Brian Culbert and a point for his efforts also. Ben O'Connell added another 4 frees and 2 '65s to round off an excellent day of sharpshooting for the Kilmurry man. Jack Mcloskey and Conor Maxwell added points also in the half and despite a late goal for the Tones the Bridge were able to maintain a lead that they had taken early in the second half right to the end.
There were some good performances from Edbrooke in goals, the young lads, Phelan, O'Connell and Mcloskey who all played an important part in this victory and Culbert who was busy throughout and chipped in with 2-2 aswell as Casey & Glynn in the backs and Scullion and Fitzpatrick in the forwards.
The win sees John Fahys Junior Cs Qualify for the knockout stages, which will be a quarter final.
