Caption picture above of Kevin (Sox) McInerney tickling John Punch of Feakle in the Clare Cup Final 2000 in Miltown.

In 2000 the Clare Hurling Championship was straight knockout with 8 teams in the competition meaning you had 3games to win the Championship - a quarter final, a semi final and a final.

The Clare Cup was taken very seriously by the 'Bridge in 2000 as it was seen as a gathering momentum exercise and also an opportunity to instill a  winning mentality for this young team.

In the quarter final of the Championship we faced Scariff and with some shaky moments in defence we ran out winners on a score of 3-12 to 3-03.

This set us up with a semi final against Kilmaley - a regular occurrence for this team as they crossed swords at this stage on at least 3 occasions with the Bridge coming out on top each time. In 200o it was very close: 2-15 to 1-16.

After winning the Senior Hurling Championship in 2000 the Bridge faced Feakle in the Clare Cup Final back in Miltown. That same day Patrickswell and Toomevarra were playing a classic in the Munster club while the Bridge were far from impressive as they struggled to a 4 point win over Feakle.
This had the local and national media totally writing off the Bridge changes of progressing any further in the Munster club - But the Underdog tag was something this team loved!

More to follow tomorrow as we preview the County final of 2000!

Check out some excerpts from local media covering the County Championship 1/4 Final, Semi Final and Clare Cup final from 2000 below.
