While the sports of hurling, soccer and rugby differ in many ways, this week sees team managers from the 3 codes come together in support for each other following disappointing results of late. Jude Kearney saw red over the weekend during his teams championship defeat to neighbors Wolfe Tones, Fans of the springbok are seeing red this week with their manager Meyer following a defeat to Japan while everyone seems to be able to beat Brendan Roger reds following a bad run of form.
While Meyer and Rogers are under severe pressure Kearney is under talks with the Bridge Club to extend his 5 year contract to 10 years with the Junior Cs. However following a very successful championship run Kearney has come into the spotlight and is being chased by a number of South Galway clubs including Kinvara where he has a winter residence. He is hoping he can convince stalwarts such as Ian Chaplin, Jim Spaight, Noel Flannery and Martin Conlon to remain on and give it one last lash, while talks are also ongoing to convince Seamus Sham Carr to transfer across the border. Carr is negotiating terms which include wearing his Tipp jersey under the Bridge jersey during games as part of a deal breaker. Kearney is also in talks with the Chicago Bears for another loan term for one of their best Shortstop to replace Matt Schwertfege who is due to return home after his contract with the Bridge runs out.
All in all well done to Jude and his team on a great year and I'm sure Rogers and Meyer would wish they got as much fun and job satisfaction out of managing a team as our Bo Kearney.
