On a sun-soaked O’Garney Park on Saturday, 15th August, our Junior Camogie team kicked off their championship campaign with a well-deserved victory over Clarecastle/Ballyea.

Referee Jim Hickey was the man in the middle as the game got underway at 6:00pm. Ava Moloney was first on the scoreboard for the Bridge Ladies with a well-taken point. Clarecastle/Ballyea quickly levelled the scores with a converted free.

The Bridge defence was well tested throughout the opening stages, but they rose to the challenge with some excellent clearances from deep inside their own half. Heidi Conneely and Rosie Young were instrumental in midfield, winning possession and delivering the ball with great precision into the forward line. Halle Keogh restored the Bridge’s lead with a fine point, before Rosie Young added another to the scoreboard. The Bridge then found the back of the net when Emily Reddan converted a long-range free.

The always lively Jess Finnin got her first of two points following a great pass from Heidi Conneely. Rosie Young was on hand again to add her second point of the day, before Halle Keogh finished the half in trademark fashion, soloing through to find the back of the net and give the Bridge some extra breathing space heading into half-time.

Ava Moloney got the second half off to a fantastic start with some magical footwork, weaving her way past three defenders before finishing brilliantly to score the Bridge’s third goal.

Newly introduced substitute Caoimhe Liddane made an immediate impact, marking her introduction with two well-taken points. Emily Reddan then added a brace of points from play before confidently slotting over a difficult free.

Mary Donnellan was next on the scoresheet, finishing off a great move down the wing with a well-taken point. Caoimhe Liddane added a goal to her tally late in the game, while Mary Donnellan rounded off the scoring for the Bridge Ladies with another point.

On a day when every player gave their very best, the Bridge backs were outstanding, holding their line and restricting Clarecastle/Ballyea to just three points.

A fantastic team performance and a brilliant start to the championship campaign. Well done to all the players and management team!

Next up for our ladies is an away fixture against Truagh/Clonlara on Saturday, 29th August. All support would be greatly appreciated.
