Sixmilebridge 1-15
Parteen Meelick 0-15

Venue - Clonlara

In a hard-fought Hurling encounter in Clonlara on Saturday, the Junior B2 team secured a crucial 3 point victory over Parteen Meelick with a final score of 1-15 to 0-15.

The Bridge started brightly, with Danny Morey registering their first point within the opening minute before Parteen responded quickly. The Bridge continued with 2 points from Alex Frost followed by a second from Danny Morey who had several possions early on and created plenty of scoring opportunities also. By the quarter hour mark Danny had his 3rd point and Cian Hogan got a point from wing back to see the Bridge leading 0-6 to 0-2. For the second quarter, Parteen Meelick gained the upper hand and reached the half time break only a point behind on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-7. Stevie Mulready in goal was coolness personified as he stopped a number of shots and hoovered up dropping balls in around his box.

The second half began with a flurry of points as Parteen Meelick scored either side of a Gary O’Callaghan point to bring the game level. The Bridge gained a bit of momentum however and 3 frees from Alex Frost and a point from Don Whitty gave them a 4 point lead. Parteen Meelick brought it back to a 1 score game soonafeter however but the Bridge kept working hard and  a break through the middle saw Gary O’Callaghan pulled down in the box and Alex Frost dispatched the resulting penalty to put a bit of breathing space between the teams. Parteen Meelick never stopped working though and got 5 unanswered points to get within 1 point of the Bridge before again Gary O’Callaghan and sub Tom Forde brought the lead back out to 3 points. Parteen fought to the very end with nearly 7 minutes of injury time played, but they couldn’t break through a dogged Bridge full back line.

A great all round performance by the Bridge, best on the day were midfield duo of Noel Flynn & Gary O’Callaghan, while Paddy O’Reilly was solid at centre back and Danny Morey with hugh work rate at centre forward.

With 1 win and 1 draw under their belt, the Bridge Jun B2 team require a win against St Joseph’s Doora Barefield in Rd 5 of the Premier Junior B championship to guarantee a quarter final spot. This game is currently fixed for Saturday 27th September in Clooney at 12pm.
