Féile na nGael (Festival of the Gaels) commenced in 1971 and took place in Tipperary. In its 54 years in existence the Bridge have won the title in Clare 17 times and travelled all over the country representing our club and county. Our first experience of Feile was in 1975 when the team were based in Youghal in Cork and in these times the event was a Thursday - Sunday event when players were staying with host families and fizzy drinks from the sponsors Coca Cola was the half time refreshments. Now a days the competition structure has changed to a single day event and the sponsor has changed to John West Foods but the memories made will be the same and last forever.
For the record our title wins to date and counties we visited are Clare Feile Na Ngael (17) - 1975 (Cork), 1979 (Kilkenny), 1980 (Galway), 1984 (Wexford), 1985 (Wexford), 1992 (Galway), 1993 (Galway), 1995 (Limerick), 1996 (Waterford), 1997 (Waterford), 2004 (Meath/Westmeath), 2006 (Cork), 2008 (Laois/Offaly), 2014 (Ulster), 2016 (Waterford), 2017 (Waterford), 2025 (Wexford).
While lots of connections are made along the way it is also a great way to see how other clubs and counties run their organisations and the Feile trip in 2016 to Waterford was the inspiration for our indoor hurling arena which helped hone the skills of our current crop.
While its 50 years on from our first trip to Feile its 30 years ago since our greatest day at Feile - on 25th June 1995 we were crowned All Ireland Champions when for the first time ever the Christy Ring trophy was divided between Sixmilebridge and Drom and Inch when extra time failed to separate the teams on a blistering hot day in the Gaelic grounds Limerick.
There are so many links to the Boys of 2025 and the boys of 1995 - Ruairi Walsh who coaches the current crop was playing corner back in 1995 while another of our coaches Martin Conlon saw his brother Robert captain the team in 95. Paul Fitzpatrick (Jack) and Podge Flannery (Liam) who played in 95 have sons involved in 2025. 1995 Captain Robert Conlon has a nephew Seán in the squad.
Other links in this years management team are - Keith Walker (Manager) and Alan Mulready (Coach) played in an All Ireland Feile semi final while other members of the coaching group Seán Lynch, Caimin Morey and Martin Conlon also represented the club at Feile. Finally the man with most experience of Feile is Mike Morey who was a coach to the first team that went to Feile in 1975 and 50 years later he is also a coach to the current crop. We are awaiting a report from the library in Shanagolden on the exploits of the final member of our management team John Reddin.
