Junior C Camogie Final – Sixmilebridge vs Whitegate

Date: Sunday, October 19th, 2025
Venue: O’Callaghans Mills GAA Club
Referee: Jim Hickey

Sixmilebridge and Whitegate played in a thrilling encounter in the Junior C Camogie Championship Final that ended level after a dramatic finish.

Despite being without their U16,  Sixmilebridge started brightly and showed real intent from the outset. The always lively Rosie Young opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a fine goal from play, setting the tone for an exciting contest.

Commanding at centre forward, Aiveen O’Shea Moloney added an impressive 1-2 before Young struck again just before the interval to give the Bridge a strong half-time lead of 3-2 to 1-2.

Whitegate, however, came out a transformed side after the break. Their determination and work rate turned the game on its head as they hit 2-1 between the 5th and 20th minutes to take a narrow one-point lead. Sixmilebridge needed inspiration, and once again it came from full forward Rosie Young who pointed to level matters, before Sinéad Cahill edged the Bridge back in front on 22 minutes.

As fatigue set in, Sixmilebridge’s defence was called upon time and again. The dependable pairing ofEimear Murray and Ruth O’Neill stood tall under pressure, repeatedly thwarting Whitegate attacks. Substitute Christina O’Grady, introduced at half-time, was also instrumental in steadying the backline.

Whitegate continued to press and were rewarded with three unanswered points between the 24th and 28th minutes to move two ahead. Yet, the Bridge girls refused to yield. Saoirse Young, now operating in the full-forward line after an immense shift at midfield, fired over a superb point in the 31st minute to reduce the gap to one.

With time almost up, Sixmilebridge were awarded a free from around their own 65-metre line. Up stepped full back Eimear Murray, who struck sweetly to split the posts and level the match. Referee Jim Hickey sounded the final whistle immediately afterwards, leaving the sides deadlocked at 3-6apiece after an enthralling battle.

This was a contest full of heart, skill, and sheer determination. Sixmilebridge, short on numbers but never on spirit, showed immense character to fight back when it mattered most.

Impressive for Sixmilebridge were defenders Ruth O’Neill and Eimear Murray, who were rock-solid throughout; Saoirse Young, tireless at midfield; Aiveen O’Shea Moloney, who impressed with 1-2 from play; and the ever-dangerous Rosie Young, who finished with a superb tally of 2-1.

Both teams will meet again in the replay — date and venue to be confirmed — after a match that truly showcased the best of Junior C camogie
